>>1979538This shit drives me up the wall. I know it's more expensive to have big comfy seats that fit fewer people total, but there's no reason there can't be a balance. Same with the lighting. Would it kill train companies to dim the lights sometimes, especially on longer journeys? I get that on commuter/regional trains you have more riff raff/retards who need to be under bright lights for supervision and almost nobody is trying to sleep, but on long distance/high speed trains with a more responsible type of passenger and longer times between stations, some people DO want to sleep. It's ridiculous. A few types like the ICE4 will dim the lights, but not a lot. Amtrak is one of the worst. Their seats are actually comfy and recline a decent amount (for now, until the Amfleets are replaced with euro-inspired cars), but I've done long journeys late at night where I want to sleep and they keep the blinding LEDs on right in your face. Guh. There are still some places where you can have nice cabins on day trains, like some of the Czech railways trains. I look one between Dresden and Prague which was really fun and comfy. Unfortunately we're going away from locomotive-hauled trains which often have comfier seats and into EMU/DMUs being dominant, which are usually less comfy/no recline. Sucks a little bit.
