I know some old peugeot px-10's(merkx one with them) back in the 70's were oversquare.
I also know tons of bikes went from square to undersquare as the frame sizes got larger.
So you would regularly see say, 56x56, then 58x57, 60x58, 62x59, etc. With the seattube being the first number.
My bike could have been a custom since faggin is a small italian brand.
Look at lots of very large bikes from the japanese and you will see they are undersquare.
Back then you could go custom, or get a different brand bike for oversquare bikes. Then that became more popular in the 90's and later since the racers used them.
Generally I like square bikes. I couldn't handle one bike that had a 53x57 with a 130mm low quill stem.
