>>1995629hm, i just bought the 1l bottles from soma and the tanaka cages, which they state fit the nalgene bottles. but i think i'll have to get a couple 1.5l bottles since they are on sale and are the same height, not every bottle needs a drink through lid and carrying 4l sounds pretty good (been fuckin hot lately)
what are the four nalgene cages and what are the 2 that don't suck? i'm interested now
also i bought some milsurp filbe sustainment pouches and a molle waist pack, $9 each and $15 respectively, and they seem okay so far. i'm using the waist pack as a bar bag, with the clasps around the bar and the front buckles around the drops. it's actually more comfortable than the cord stabilizers on my other bar bag because you don't have those squeeze adjusters on your brake levers/bars, and you can just kinda reach through the strap.
The sustainment pouches can mount pretty easily to your rack pretty easily and i think are fine if you aren't carrying a lot of stuff. they seem like a pretty decent alternative to panniers, but certainly won't replace your 10-20l bags for sure.
i bought some 1.5mm plastic sheets i'm going to cut to size and probably rivet to the back of the pouches and the inside of the waist pack to give it structure. the waist pack sags a bit and the pouches deform a little when crammed with shit. the latter is less of a problem, but if you don't have mega headtube and stem height it could rub when loaded without any support.
