Yeah, had 3 bikes stolen. Did get one of them back though since the thief ditched it less than a mile away from my house and then the cops randomly came across it.

One time I rode my scooter into a target parking lot near my friend apartment. The apartment complex had gated parking but I didn't want a ticket.
Next morning it was gone. only 300-350lbs so not too hard to steal.

Notified 2 weeks later they couldn't pick the steering lock and ride it.
Took me 3-4 hours to fix that, man those were some stupid thiefs.

The scooter was worth maybe 1k

This was the UK, yeah I was flabbergasted by it too. Was a somewhat distinct looking bike though and he ditched in some grass at a local park really close, so I guess that's why, required almost zero police work to find.

police stole my bike when I disobeyed them and kept my earbuds on while riding a brakeless fixed gear, then proceeded to refuse to indetify myself or pay a fine. I did convince them to let me keep my saddle since it was the most expensive part anyway. That was like 13 years ago. They impounded some trash with tax payers money.

Yeah, my freshman year of college 2011 I took my dad's old bike from the 1980s (first time I'd ridden a bike since I was a kid) and I really enjoyed it. So I bought a new big box hybrid bike for $500. My dumb ass locked it up outside my apartment with a thick cable lock and it was stolen before the school year started.

So I then bought a used 5 year old aluminum road bike that was $1300 that I got for $500 and I haven't let it out of my sight since then, have had it for over 12 years now
