>>2010411Honestly it's entirely due to population density. US is extremely sparse asides the coasts, which is why Acela exists. Trains have never been viable for passenger use anyways in the US, the only reason it lasted as long as it did was because of federal mandate.
HSR has a place in America and should be developed but it will never be on par with TGV or anything simply due to the distances and lack of popularity outside of large metro regions like the East Coast, Southern California and Texas Triangle, all of which getting HSR developed.
