>>2010784I regularly advocate in my small city in the mid-west.
A month ago, the city held a meeting to discuss the potential of building a mixed use structure in a massive parking lot in the center of the downtown.
I argued that it was more than 90% empty for about 50% of the day, 33% full for about 40% of the day, and 100% full for about 10%. I argued that taking a third of that land and turning mixed use while a lost having an underground parking garage for the residents would be the best of both worlds.
For my two-minute speech I was being booed and jeered at by over a hundred boomers who also attended the meeting.
After my speech there were people said the following:
-Building a mixed used building would ruin the character of the downtown. (There is another building just like it across the street.)
-Where will I park my car? There already is no parking! (There are other lots just another minutes' walk away from the one in question.)
-The building will be ugly (...)
Two ladies just straight up started crying at the podium talking about how the city is going downhill (It has never been better in any metric.)
I can't wait for boomers to die out. So many things will get done so much faster.
