>>2023163I know this is bait but I've ridden a few cheap BSOs and I can see why a lot of casual cyclists just never bother trying to use the shifters, the shifting is unresponsive, takes forever, often skips or just decides not to shift at all and then shifts later at the worst possible time, it's awful. The problem here is that derailleurs and shifters all look pretty much identical to a casual user, so the idea that more expensive shifting can be useful and easy would have to be taken on faith alone. But "moar gears gud" sells BSOs, so that's how the market is flooded with so much barely functional trash, and if you try to say anything against that it makes you a fred snob who thinks he's lance armstrong
