>>2023892>how is the richest country on earth this much of a shit place to be?because the riches in america are completely meaningless due to how utterly selfish americans are. first of all, the vast majority of the wealth is concentrated in the small group of ultra wealthy people and families, so the "vast wealth" of the country is somewaht of a farce. but more than that, because americans are so pig-headed and selfish, they will never want to do anything that contributes to a public benefit. the only thing they care about is what benefits or affects them personally, and that is what benefits them economically. and the politicians on both sides in this country, rather than trying to develop policies that help us, instead want to keep us all distracted with completely meaningless culture war bullshit so that we fight each other, like any of us citizesn actually matter, while the politicians and oligarchs toast each other and laugh with each other about how big of fucking retards we are.
my home region of the bay area california (yeah go ahead and spew vitriol at me) is a great example of this. one of the richest areas of the country and really the entire world on its own due to the tech industry, should have so much money that makes it where people can live somewhat well and in harmony. instead, what is it? its full of homeless, a handful of major cities overun by crime, and the one of the very few actually good, beneficial public services it has (the subway system) is facing such a massive budget deficit that it may be out of business within a few years. because everyone here is fucking selfish and only cares about their own personal little bubble and tesla car.
so yeah, in short, no one cares about fixing things, if its not something that personally affects them. most people dont use greyhound, so they dont give a shit if it sucks. and thats the ideology of americans.
