funiculars are basically just long sloped elevators and they are considered public transport, so are cable cars which are basically just suspended inclined elevators, so no reason to argue otherwise.

Hotel NH Prague City has an elevator that's actually a funicular that will take you to the top of the hill where the restaurant is located.
Just stroll into the hotel like you belong and enjoy the ride to the top.

I like elevators. I work in a 12 story building that was built in the 70’s. Sometimes the elevator shakes and rattles a little and it makes visitors and women nervous, or at least comment on it. One old guy who’s been there forever told me it used to be faster but they had to slow it down in like the 90’s or early 00’s. One of my coworkers swears the elevator goes faster if you press the floor number and door close at the same time, but I still can’t tell if he’s right or not.

that's one thing i really remember about bilbao, loads of outside public elevators that take you around the city

there was also a sloped one that was pretty funky - pic related, it just took you down a small hill, not even that steep

During the belle epoque it was fashionable to build large, retreat-type hotels with their of funicular or other transport leading up to them (since there were no cars it was otherwise difficult to reach them).
Let me dump a few examples from Switzerland:

The Grand Hotel Dolder in Zurich has a rack railway to reach it. It used to be a funicular and a short (about 500m long) tram line, though the tram closed in 1930 and was replaced with a bus. The funicular was converted to rack railway in the early 70s and extendet (along a slightly different route) towards the hotel. This line is now owned by the city and can be used as any other regular public transport, but it's still called "Dolderbahn" (Dolder railway). The Hotel is also still in operation.

In Lucerne, the Hotel Château Gütsch is reached by the Gütschbahn. This used to be a funicular, but in 2008 the hotel after changing owners closed it, and it was taken over by the city and converted to two parallel inclined elevators, so it no longer works as a proper funicular with counterbalancing cars. It has also lost a lot of its charm, sadly.

One of the most iconic is the Bürgenstock funicular, leading up to the resort of the same name, which is perched on top of a cliff overlooking Lake Lucerne. The hotel has had some new buildings added to the old ones, and the funicular was rebuilt and modernized, albeit with retro-style cars to somewhat keep up the old-style charm. However the funicular, which is still owned and operated by the hotels, is quite overpriced, so as to keep away the plebs, apparently.

Adding to that, near to the Bürgenstock hotel there is an enormous elevator on the cliffside, which was originally built in 1913 as part of a cliff-walk that was built so that the noble clientele of the hotel wouldn't have to take hikes on the sunny south side of the mountain but instead could enjoy the shade on the north side. At the end of this path the lift leads up to a plateau where there's a cafe.

The Grand Hotel Giessbach is located next to Lake Brienz and has a funicular that leads to it from the lake, where there's the pier. So you get there from Interlaken by steamer (there's even still one actual steamship running on this lake) and then change to the funicular to reach the resort hotel.

The funicular, called Giessbachbahn, is very notable for being the oldest funicular still in operation in Switzerlandm and the fourth-oldest in Europe, dating from 1879. Its cars date from 1891 albeit modified and rebuilt. Originally this funicular just like many others worked with water ballast (the cars had a water tank that was filled at the top and emptied at the bottom, so that the descending car would pull the other one up). This was converted to turbine power in 1912 (ie a "motor" but driven directly by a water turbine) and to electric power in 1948. It's also one of the very few funiculars that still use a rack for the emergency brake.

There's funiculars with several stations. Either they're spaced equally apart, or the other car needs to have a technical stop with no station while the other car stops at the station.

I work building maintenance for some government buildings. Our elevator repair tech is a decently hot girl so I always chat her up. She's taken me for a ride on top of the elevator car, shown me around the pit and elevator mech room, taught me a few things about it all but i literally don't care. Now knowing there are elevator autists this is making me laugh because of the access I've had to this stuff.

Other anon but Naples also has a bunch of funiculars with multiple stations, most with their own quirks:

Anyone have fear of lifts (elevators)? I haven't been in one for years. Just yesterday I walked up to the 10th floor instead of use one. Fuck hotels for making the stairs so hard to find, have had so many arguments over this. People seem incapable of understanding that some people don't like using lifts.

I think the floor is on a hinge so if you get your foot stuck under it, it will lift the floor and trip a safety sensor
