But you generally don't see completely-over-the-top stuff like OP pic because underground construction is expensive (and we aren't doing cheap cut-and-cover shit anymore, sadly). They'd rather design out the rough shape of the spaces based on the functional requirements, and then the aesthetics aspect gets a little bit of wiggle room on the final details.
>>2032980Because if someone falls onto the tracks then it costs a lot of money. Even if a train doesn't hit them, imagine the delay waiting for an ambulance just because you have to immobilize their neck just in case it maybe is broken.
Our commuter trains allow people to wait on the platforms, because the costs from longer loading times is greater than that cost of those liabilities.
But our intercity trains all have enough schedule room for the longer boarding time, so they'd rather reduce the cost of that liability.
