I just beat the shit out of it all winter, and plan for a full replacement of all the wear parts in the spring (keep spares of everything in-hand). If anything does survive the winter, it's a bonus.
Though buying premium parts can help. I wish I remembered the part number (usually just tell the bike shop to handle me whatever), but one of the chains actually survived the winter with zero corrosion and only minor wear.
Also, don't ride a bike you can't afford to replace. For any number of reasons, but winter being one of them.
