The janky spacing i've had to do to get some new disc bikes to work out of the box is wild.
A lot of cheaper and older disc brakes are also basically not serviceable.
And then if you're talking about the high end you can't dismiss marginal gains, that's the whole fucking thing.
The reason discs are so ubiquitous is the same as why BSOs have full suspension and why 13 speed exists. There's a perceived value from getting 'more' and 'newer' technology and bike companies are required to update their product so that people buy new bikes. It's about psychological sales tactics not pragmatism.
Of course disc is better a lot of the time but it's not to the extent that they exist.
