internal cam quick release wheels used by a man or an intelligent woman is fine.
It's people who have no clue, use external cam QR's on vintage bikes/horizontal drops, or just retards who have issues.

Now I prefer qr's to thru axles since I don't have to fuck with spacers.

like many things optimized for a certain use case, you start running into trouble. put it on a walmart shitter with shoddy parts and you'll have problems. put it on a kid's bike and leaving the kid to his own devices and you'll have problems

modern thru axles could be the perfect solution, the main issue with them being the lack of a single standard for the axle threading and length even for the same nominal OLD, but worse still, the lack of a consistent and useful set of naming conventions. this is why you have to pick the brand, model, and year on a thru-axle finder when you want a new one for your TA bike

so TA could become a useful filter for MGTOW DIY cultists who like to dumpster dive everything and gatekeep bike maintenance, but for the time being it's associated with more expensive bikes that are under 15 years of age, so the urge to rage at "buyfag racer consoomers" overcomes the urge to have more inexplicable bike repair compatibility issues that you can lord it over the stupid noobs with

all of my shit is old pre boost.
Heck, pre 142 so we are talking 150mm or 135 rears. 15mm or 20mm fronts. 135x10mm axle(heh).
The front wheel spacers that go against the dropout and preload the bearings? yeah, kinda annoying until you figure out how the wheel setup goes in.

I also hate it when shitty axles are made. I have a fox 40 from the shit front aluminum axle era and...... it's bad. Every time I take it off I am wonder when I will have to modify it or make a new one.

problem with these is that they're almost -never- tightened correctly. How to close them should be taught in school, grease on the thread, play out at 90°, and don't clamp them over the frame/fork or they won't fully close and aren't quick to release.

I run 100/135 quick release axels on a mtb I beat hard as fuck, I’ve never had any problems, I presume user error would be a very real risk for people who simply don’t clamp them correctly.
