But for bridges of the right class for a cable-stayed option to be considered to start with, the choice makes sense. However, the replacement schedule is very long as you don't usually tear down an existing bridge if you can help it until it reaches the end of its design life. It's also likely that some (like the Golden Gate or Brooklyn bridges) will never be replaced that way.
