Well to be fair, a new train station is opening next week just out of frame, so there might be some pedestrian traffic soon, but not THAT much

Doesn't seem like there's enough foot traffic in that area to justify that. I know the photo could have been taken during off-peak times, but areas that benefit from scrambles usually have tons of dense commercial and retail development around it.

There's a new light rail station opening next to it on Saturday actually (just like Shibuya, lol), and there's a shopping center just south of that. So... it might get busy, but I doubt busy enough to justify a scramble. It's just stunt-civic-engineering for PR...

I drove through it today just after noon. There were zero pedestrians.... though tbf the trains start running this weekend. It has some nice new signage about it being an all-way crossing. I'll go walk through it later this week.

My town has a intersection with an all-walk cycle (lights flash for no right on stop) but it only works when there's people there which is only peak hours.

Boston has several of these, and has for ages. Very convenient. There’s no fanfare about them though because it’s just common sense to do where there’s a lot of pedestrians. Pretty funny to see a place make such a big deal out of one but hey, progress is progress.
