the lake in question is about the size of the Caspian sea and never gets more than a couple of degrees above freezing on the hottest day.
the "lake boat" hauled 26,000 tons of iron ore and went down in a storm with winds described as "near hurricane force."
op is exaggerating, there's worse maritime disasters, but this was hardly a "lake boat."

Yes, but did it go down bow first? Some people speculate that the waves were coming from the stern, and when the bow dipped into a trough it was at the same time that a large wave got it from behind and drove her nose first into the mud in a matter of seconds
