>>2050012The food deserts map kills me because the places that are actual food deserts like Staten Island and Eastern Queens are car dependent where most of the residents will just get in their car and drive to a Target/Trader Joe's and their criteria of "food desert" means anywhere that you can't get to a supermarket within a 5 minute walk (a 10 minute walk shows a lot more supermarkets and grocery stores...like half of the South Bronx isn't within proximity of a Trade Fair, Key Food, Associated, Food Bazaar, etc on top of Hunts Point Market). You seriously cannot claim anywhere in urban NYC is a food desert, it's not a Baltimore/Philly situation where you have boarded up row houses, missing sidewalks, crack being sold on the corner. It's unironically too safe with more foot traffic.
