I am getting ready for my PPL checkride. I cant talk to whether the ATP rating life is cushy, but I can tell you this has been a really stressful process. I would sleep for only 4 or 5 hours a night because I would wake up thinking about everything I had to know, the day's upcoming flight, whether I was going to successfully pass my stage checks etc. Its cool to think about flying into Rome and telling the babes there youre a pilot, but the reality for me is waking up at 4am and stressing myself if I remember cloud clearances for Class G over 1200 AGL but under 10000 MSL. Whether I could explain extemporaneously the gravity fed fuel system. The pitot static system. The various emergency procedures. Knowing how to gauge 10 and 5 miles without using GPS during a simulated diversion. Getting Bravo clearances and not sounding like a retard on the radio. I remember being shown the inside of the Cessna for the first time, taking off for the first time and wondering what the fuck I got myself into. After all though, its been a great learning experience and would do it again. The hardest parts are still yet to come for me too!
