Well it is interesting, pretty steep price although it is probably within the range of the Milwaukee Road historical society's budget to purchase. Depending on its location and access something could happen with it, or more likely it will just sit for several more decades with no buyers.

At least one of the owners of these trestles finally decided he could try to get money out of railfans by selling a piece of historic land to them, unlike that guy who supposedly was so sick of people trespassing on his property to see one of the trestles that he just blew the trestle up to spite them :^) Not sure how true the above story is but it seems believable to me.

Although I've only played the 2010 version. I heard the newest Trainz is buggy and not very much improved on the last one for its price.

Is there a way to set the trains to run completely autonomously in 2010 or the newest one? I just want to watch trains run through the scenery, I don't need to control them myself.

Not really that interested tbqhwy. This board and 1chan provide sufficient discussion on the Milwaukee Road, and when I want to know more about the line I read what the experts have to say on the dedicated Yahoo group.

Also this board has relatively high traffic compared to anything else, and I prefer to anonymously preach the gospels of the Milwaukee Road's electrification here when it's relevant. Good luck with your forum though.

Apparently my message is getting through to people, as evident by this thread. Whether people like it or not, at least more people are now aware of the glory that was the Milwaukee Road's electrified lines. Together we can make Little Joes Great Again.

it reduced costs to get to the west coast but getting to the west coast was what killed the railroad eventually anyway. it was the last route laid out, and the worst route. both NP and GN had a better route with lower grades.

if you look at any of the pictures of the electrified divisions, check out the base of the poles holding up the catenary. you'll see two stumps. one of the reasons the electrification was a boondoggle was that the poles rotted at the stumps due to improper creosote application. so they had to put a second stump on each and every catenary pole.

they sold the wire for scrap because it was the right thing to do.

when the milwaukee went tits up, the soo line grabbed what was profitable and well, that didnt include lines west, now, did it...

but hey never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

had they not attempted to reach the pacific they might still be in business today.

the substations couldnt keep up with the little joes. thats why the geeps showed up.

the copper overhead may have been fine, but the poles holding it up were rotten. look at any picture.

the little joes werent worn out, but the bipolars and boxcabs most certainly were.

since there was next to no traffic originating on the line, nobody chose to run it. railroads dont make shit on bridge traffic, they make it on car loadings (originating traffic), and the per diem on what was, at the time, a boxcar.

had the line actually been profitable someone may have actually bought it and kept running it. since its a bike trail, what does that tell you?

i dont disagree it was a cool idea. and i would agree it probabl lowered operating costs. but to say that lines west/mountain division turned a profit is patently false.
