>>955038Alright, so I was dicking around for a bit, and I came up with this - Feedback and suggestions are appreciated (this is a rough plan, so its not properly measured or anything).
It's going to be N Scale, 4x8 with a 4x6 addition to make the L-shape.
The solid line is going to be for diesel/steam, while the scored line is going to be an interurban/rapid-transit line. Both will be completely double-tracked.
As for the spot where they all converge in the middle...
>diesel main will stay at-grade>the north/south electric line will descend into a cut, crossing under it>the east/west electric line will cross above grade, either on an embankment or a bridge/elevated structureThe vertical portion of the layout will be suburban/rural in character. I think I'll put a town there, and try to incorporate some street-running on the electric line. I may even include a third, smaller loop, dedicated solely to streetcars (though possibly connected to the larger interurban line).
As for the horizontal bit, I think I would like to model that as a city, and perhaps even completely elevate the electric line there, as if it were rapid transit. I would built a yard/passenger terminal for the diesel line in the bottom right corner.
I will also likely include some sidings/industries on the diesel line (though with N Scale, I'd rather emphasize continuous running rather than switching).
Thoughts?
This is the first semi-substantial layout I've ever planned.
