I know this isn't related to the bike but NEVER use stationary bike lube. My chain attracts more dust than a vacuum cleaner; my silver sprcoket is now black and if i think touching the right side of the bicycle my hands get dirty instantly.

Yeah, I didn't put that saddle on there. Definitely not period correct and I think it might even be a women's saddle. I'll change it soon.

Anyway, the 12 to 6 conversion...

Long story short I ended up stripping out the derailleur hanger so I had to order one of the $8 eBay XUNDAH derailleurs that attaches by the dropouts. Because the derailleur hanger is in the way, I'm only able to use my bottom 3 gears. It's supposed to be temporary, but every shop I ask about fixing my stripped hanger ignores me so maybe not.

If you wanted a proper fix that'd probably mean welding up the hole and drilling a new one, I don't think it would be very easy to helicoil (short large diameter thread with not muc material around it).

Just bought this frame last week and stripped my nishiki to build it up and ride for a bit. The bike will get a pair of nuovo record derailers and suntour bar end shifters. I'll leave the 600 cranks and use a pair of dura ace hubs to build a new wheelset.

As for the Nutra, I had one of those a few years ago and just for giggles I tried setting it up like a cyclocross bike - it was really heavy and had the worst wheelset ever for offroad use, but was surprisingly fun to bash around on. Yours is definitely too small for you though.

The seat was actually all of the way back when I got it. I have no idea how tall/long the P.O. was as I'm 6'3" and need the saddle forward like that. I tried riding clipless but my knees couldn't take it so I swapped back to flats. Might try out the Speedplay(?) pedals with a lot of float

That wouldn't happen even if it was at the maximum rotation, which it wouldn't be even in the lowest gear. The pulleys on a derailer can rotate further than if the chain was completely straight from front to rear.

I believe they pop up on eBay as "Cinelli 66-38" or something similar I'd have to check. They aren't Giro d'Italia or Campione Del Mundo, they just say Cinelli on them.

They are quite comfy once you get warmed up and start making power.

no camera atm, but i just bought one of these. bikes fuckin' sweet. sag on the shock should be adjusted about 5 degrees (35 to 30), but i can't get to the shop to pick up a shock pump til monday. i ended up getting a complete with the scout 3 stock build for the scout 4 msrp because the dude that owns the shop i went to is rad as fuck.

massive upgrade from my giant hardtail. the bike just eats everything i throw it at.

only difference is the frame color is reverse on my build (limeaid green on matte black). shop dude said he wanted this frame but he needed to use the black-on-green one because he travels a lot with it and it's a real attention-grabber.

I was thinking of using a Sharpie or some other kind of marker but didn't think it would work too well, in my experience it takes quite a few coats, comes off fairly easily, and sometimes fades (probably not an issue with black). I'll have a hunt round and see if I've got any black markers to give it a go.

It's smooooth, rides really nice. Feels surprisingly fast and nimble on pavement (At least for a bike with tires like that), but stable and solid off road. Gobbles up singletrack all day and climbs like a goat.

My previous bike apart from being dirty had no paint wear on cranks and it was pretty cheap piece of shit awell. It's just Shimano being shit with their choice of logo placement right where you rub against it, they might aswell put a temporary sticker there.

It's one of the only really good ways to get decent shifters on a drop-bar mountain bike. It would be easier if I was doing a 1x setup - a Shimano 9-speed or 10-speed brifter will shift a 9-speed MTB rear derailleur just fine. But there's that pesky problem of the cable pull ratio on the front derailleur... I've modified derailleurs before, but Gevenalle's solution is bulletproof. The downside is you can't shift while in the drops, only from the hoods.

I had a MTB that also had lines that way, which is the only very obvious thing I'd say I dislike about it
just clean it and protect it against further rust progression and maybe get some better components and as long as it gets you from A to B it's a decent bike, especially for what you're saying you paid for it
also as long as it isn't rusted af I'd actually advise against doing a full paint job because it's a fucking chore. If you don't like this bike so much rather than wasting money on paint just start saving for a better one.

Forgive me I'm a cycling noob when it comes to riding position. I got this for free last year and only started riding for fun with it rather than commuting in March. Just did what you suggested and it allowed me to raise the seat tube an inch and a half. Feels considerably better although I feel it is still a touch too big.

It is not a very big frame.
If you are of roughly average height it should be fine for you. "It Feels Too Big" could be symptomatic of quite a number of different things - all of which can be adjusted.

I'm guessing that you don't feel like it's too big, you feel like you are having to bend and/or reach too far to the hoods. You should raise the bars a few millimeters. Since you have a quill stem, this is easily accomplished by loosening the stem bolt and gently (or not so gently) twisting the bars back & forth to pull the stem to a slightly higher position in the steertube. Then straight the bars out and re-tighten the stem bolt. You may also need to re-adjust your brake cable tension a bit after doing this.

Sure you could keep the frame and upgrade everything else but 1. the owner is very unlikely to do that, they'll probably keep it as it is until it gets stolen or breaks 2. it'd still be pretty shitty.

You got it. However i went out for a little test ride on it and it does feel a lot better. I was more concerned abouy the sizong because i had so little seatpost showing before. And i was over reaching because the seat was so far back which made it uncomfortable to even stay on the hoods for extended periods of time. Bringing the seat forwards changed this considerably.

Pic related, it now looks like this. The seat angke I cant do much about. I definitely need a new saddle though. Its comfortable enough like this but I know it isn't right. I rode with the saddle angled up more when I first got it but it gave me numb dick. I changed it and now its fine and i got complacent amd never bothered to change it.

Thanks for your help anyway. Im really enjoying the bike so far.

Nah Claud Butler used to be quite a large scale manufacturer in the UK. Fallen from grace nowadays and just make utility bikes and cheap crap roadies.

Its 531 tubing. And the buttplug is a bell that I robbed because my commute to work is full of dog walkers!

Amd just to add, i think its probably from the late 80s to early 90s. Based on the Shimano exage groupset and when I got it the bar tape was the kind of purple camo that was trendy around Pantanis time and looked like it hadn't been changed in a long long time.
