In their place, a nationwide train service would be created, with stops at regular intervals in towns and cities, as well as longer trips across the country. This would allow for faster travel (trains would travel more quickly for nationwide journeys while trains in cities would avoid traffic jams) and create less air pollution.
For small journeys, roads would now be open for bicycle travel (train tracks in cities would be placed above or below street level), allowing the nation to switch to a more sustainable and healthier form of transport.
