There are race tires you shouldn't risk riding the streets on due to their fragile nature.
And there are tires that some Velodromes won't allow you to use because you'll slide off of the banking or mark up the track surface.
Most racers have a set of race wheels with race tires on them and training wheels with tires you could ride on the street. Some racers have wheels that fit between those that they can do both on. Horses for courses.
