I visited Manila once and just rode around on the LRT2 midday when it wasn't that busy.

It's used as tram, or more like a urban rail system? I think it isn't the best construct for its current duty.

The Manila system is a completely grade separated light rail. So it's basically a metro system with tram like cars.

I really hoped the lines to be dismantled and rebuilt as a proper MRT lines.

Using tram system as metro is really a short sighted move. Even monorail would carry more passengership than this "metro".

Super 8 videos of the old Bielefeld tram from 1986, just before it was converted to a Stadtbahn system with underground sections. You can see some of the construction sites in the video. The newer vehicles are still in use today.
