Years ago you might have a guy with more conductor seniority than his brakeman, but the brakeman has more brakeman seniority than the conductor. They were treated as different crafts. That's seldom the case anywhere now.
So while you might work as a brakeman or conductor from one night to the next on an extra board, the only real difference is a small pay gap between which you're called as.
