>>992458I dunno, it's a gas pipe special (not good) but if I got it for my birthday I would ride it until something broke, and then decide if I wanted to keep it or not. "Oh, it's been okay so far and I wouldn't mind spending to fix it"/"Oh it's utter garbage and I'm glad I have an excuse to get rid of it"
>>995080I'm assuming the right is your friend's? I really prefer it because it has a simpler and more cohesive aesthetic, not to mention is the same bike functionally as the one on the left. Left bike has a more extreme stem angle but is set higher up, thereby adding some superfluous stem...ness... to the bike for the same hand position. The lattice chainring looks nicer on contemporary bikes with more meme parts on them, but the frame is just too classic for such a new part to not clash. The mismatched rims, likewise, look out of place on such an old-styled frame. I'd totally forgive this stuff if there was a good weight savings associated with parts choice, though. Utility is a great reason to skimp on looks, as long as there's nothing pointless or superfluous. (that said, I think right is still a cleaner look overall).
Oh, and you should think about getting one of the blue hkk vertex chains, if you can stomach the cost, and send the gold chain off to your buddy. It matches his sidewalls! Which is as good a reason as any to splurge on new stuff.
