commuters/bike dorks can get what is basically a Surly Troll for $50 --- without discs, which you don't need because you're not mountain riding.
They make good slow tour bikes, commuters, beaters, and drop bar conversions are cool as hell for pothole city riding
Think about it: $2,000 for a "Gravel" bike, or convert to GT Krakatoa to drop bar and put some 2.0" semi slicks on it... hmmm
