you picked a low-end spec from a reputable brand. ride it until you learn all your basic skills and the bike is busted up beyond reasonable repair. invest in a newer, better bike from the same brand (GT Sanction, for example) when you're ready and can afford to do so.

the most important part is to HAVE FUN RIDING YOUR BIKE though. get out and hit the local bunny trails and build a base for riding skills!
one thing to remember is that people you meet out at the local spots aren't going to bag on you for having a newbie bike. that just doesn't happen in actual reality (outside of some people just being dicks because they're dicks). be cool and don't hesitate to ask questions, you'll probably make some new friends.

Thanks guys, I knew someone would come through with some good tips. Just got back from a 8 km ride with the wife and kids. Was good times less the whining from my boy. Also my seat was tilted too high on the front side so I fixed that when I got home. Other than that had a good time and bike felt great. I can't wait to go and ride local trails.

What does it do for you? Just stop you from sliding off the seat? I basically just made it level with the ground now. It feels more comfortable and isn't pushing on the old Johnson as much either lol. Like I said, I'm a noob and I came to learn and do appreciate advice.

That's some dumb shit. If you're sliding forward on the saddle when going down a hill then your arms are weak as shit and I'm surprised you don't smash your face on the stem when braking. Tilting the saddle back has no advantage and will suck on flat ground.

if you look at the diagram i painstakingly crafted, you'll see that the descent position is very clearly a modified attack position with the rider's legs extended (with bend at the knee), heels down, hips positioned over the back wheel. the saddle angle makes this position easier to execute and recover in absence of a dropper post. it's really basic, man. this position is also the beginning of a manual and/or a bunny hop.

Here's a challenge, show me any skilled riders bike that lacks a dropper post and has the seat tilted back. It also has to be a bike where the seat is actually sat on whilst pedalling so no DH or dirt jumpers.
