When you have an unopposed hyper-authoritarian government or a king (and China has both), they can never admit wrongdoing, and see everyone not falling in line with them as something less than human to be denied and eliminated. Thus, a government like the CCP.

There's no ideological opposition manifesting from China. It used to be Mao or nothing - which had some hope, as long as he was dead, but now it's Xi or nothing.
But fear not, we're not going to war. We can't, anymore than the USSR and the USA did. ...Albeit, we're still having proxy wars over that fiasco, to this day - so may whatever gods you believe in, help all those nations trapped in the middle.
All I can hope for is all the inevitable hate for China, as a result of the economic game between us, won't boil over to the ethnic Chinese here, anymore than it already has, as their ancestors escaped China for a reason: It's not "bug people" that are the danger, it's hivemind mentality under a single ruler.
