https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/article/ted-cruz-colin-allred-transgender-athletes-19797497.phpA new campaign ad showing a Colin Allred look-alike tackling a young girl is the latest attempt from U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz's supporters to paint his campaign opponent as overly supportive of transgender rights.
The short ad, “Texas Girls Sports,” was posted on Youtube Thursday by a Super PAC backing Cruz in his tight reelection bid.
What starts as a spirited montage of girls playing sports makes a dramatic shift in music, tone and lighting, as the narrator warns Texans of a “new opponent.” The ad accuses Allred, a congressman from Dallas, of not protecting young female athletes from the supposed enemy.
“Texas girls are tough, but they’re facing a new opponent they can’t beat by digging deeper. Colin Allred could’ve stopped men from competing in women's sports, but instead he voted against our daughters,” the narrator says.
BORDER CLASH: U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is attacking Colin Allred’s record on the border. Where does the Democrat stand?
Right after, the ad hits its climactic peak as a grown man rams into a young female athlete playing flag football. The viewer sees the back of the bad-acting “opponent” who looks down on her. It focuses to reveal the name on the back of the man’s jersey — “Allred.”
“What kind of man does that?” the narrator asks.
