Vice President Kamala Harris polled ahead of Donald Trump in 13 recent national polls, as November's presidential showdown between the Democratic and Republican candidates draws closer.
Various surveys showed Harris with a 1- to 5-point lead when respondents were asked about their voting intentions. However, the popular vote won't determine the election's outcome. Under the Electoral College system, Trump could win in November despite receiving fewer votes than Harris, as he did against Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Harris officially became the Democratic Party's 2024 presidential nominee on Monday after receiving support from 99 percent of Democratic National Convention delegates in a virtual roll call. She swiftly became her party's presumptive candidate after President Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the race on July 21 and endorsed her.
A SurveyUSA poll asked 1,510 likely voters between August 2 and 4 whom they would vote for "if the November 2024 election for President were today." It found Harris ahead with 48 percent of the vote to Trump's 45 percent, while other candidates had 3 percent and 4 percent of respondents were undecided.
