But it’s an important document, because it clearly demonstrates that Twitter will not only take requests from the government, it will even act quickly to align its analyses with its “partners"
In the July, 2020 letter agent Chan demanded an explanation for Twitter’s apparent assertion that it “had not observed much recent activity from official propaganda actors on your platform.”

As conservatives re-up their criticism of Twitter for supposedly interfering in the 2020 election with its two-day ban on an unverified story about Hunter Biden’s laptop, it’s worth noting that Republican federal election officials already cleared the company of that specific charge.

Last Friday night, Twitter CEO Elon Musk released “the Twitter Files,” a behind-the-scenes account of the social media giant’s controversial decision in the run-up to the 2020 election to temporarily restrict circulation of the New York Post’s unconfirmed report about the contents of a laptop hard drive supposedly belonging to Hunter Biden.

The platform reversed its decision in two days. But in that time, Twitter—citing company policy of restricting the spread of “hacked materials”—blocked all sharing of the story, and locked the New York Post out of its account.

The Twitter Files took the form of a 37-tweet thread from independent Substack journalist Matt Taibbi, with Musk, who officially took over the company last month, pumping it as an “awesome” exposé of political bias and malfeasance under the tech firm’s old management.

The so-called “bombshell” landed with a thud. Multiple news and tech outlets—and even some Republicans—panned the story as overhyped and ultimately empty. And, it turns out, FEC Republicans would appear to agree.

Agency investigators, acting on a complaint from the Republican National Committee, took up the issue as it pertains to campaign finance law—whether Twitter’s actions constituted an unlawful in-kind contribution to the Biden campaign.

Elon Musk said he “exited” Twitter’s deputy general counsel over concerns the high-ranking executive tried to suppress information about the social media platform’s handling of the Hunter Biden laptop controversy.

Musk, who bought Twitter last month for $44bn, said in a tweet on Tuesday he pushed out James Baker, the FBI’s top lawyer before joining the social media giant in 2020, over his “possible role in suppression of information important to the public dialogue”.

Musk said Baker, who played a key role in the FBI probe into claims of Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election, had offered an “unconvincing” explanation for his actions when confronted.
Musk’s announcement came shortly before independent journalist Matt Taibbi wrote on Twitter that the planned publication of new internal files related to Twitter’s handling of the Hunter Biden laptop story had been delayed due to Baker’s “vetting” of the documents without management’s approval.

Taibbi, a former Rolling Stone journalist who now writes on Substack, said he and fellow independent journalist Bari Weiss had faced “obstacles” searching internal documents shared with them by Musk. Taibbi said he and Weiss had resumed reviewing the documents, dubbed the “Twitter files”, and were preparing to publish the next instalment.

Several left-wing activists on Twitter have been suspended from the platform after far-right users launched a false-report campaign.

Prominent left-wing accounts have been banned from Twitter since Musk's takeover, the Intercept reported first. This includes Chad Loder, an anti-fascist researcher who identified a Proud Boy member involved in the US Capitol Riots on January 6 2021; Vishal Pratap Singh, a journalist who has reported on far-right protests in Southern California; Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club, a group that provides armed security for LGBTQ+ events in Texas; and CrimethInc, an anarchist organization that publishes books and podcasts.

Loder told Insider that they suspects their account was suspended because of an "organized mass reporting campaign" against left-wing Twitter users coordinated by a right-wing group called Zanting. The group published detailed instructions on a Substack blog on how to falsely report people along with a list of accounts which included Loder's profile at the top.

Loder shared screenshots with Insider of messages on Telegram channels — with thousands of followers including Proud Boys and QAnon believers — celebrating Loder's suspension from the platform.

Senior members of Twitter's trust and safety team were aware of the list and the false reporting campaign against Loder — which is a violation of Twitter's policies against platform manipulation — and had plans to address it. However, key members of the team have now quit or were fired including executives Vijaya Gadde and Yoel Roth.

SYRIA
The death toll after two days of fighting between pro- and anti-government factions in southern Syria’s Suwayda province now stands at 17 with at least 40 more wounded, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. All of those killed seem to have been combatants. Clashes began on Tuesday after two prominent anti-government figures were abducted the previous day. Anti-government fighters on Tuesday reportedly surrounded the headquarters of the pro-government faction that abducted them and both of them have now been released. That may be enough to end the fighting though it’s probably too soon to say for sure.

IRAQ
The Turkish consulate in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul apparently came under mortar fire early Wednesday morning. The attack caused no casualties but it did come as relations between Iraq and Turkey are still reeling from that apparent Turkish artillery strike on an Iraqi resort earlier this month. There’s no indication as to responsibility for Wednesday’s shelling though I would imagine the Kurdistan Workers’ Party is a prime suspect.

Supporters of Iraqi political leader Muqtada al-Sadr reportedly breached Baghdad’s secure “Green Zone” on Wednesday and eventually stormed into the parliament building. This uprising comes a couple of days after Sadr’s political rivals in the Coordination Framework nominated veteran politician Mohammed al-Sudani as their choice for prime minister in an attempt to end Iraq’s now-record long period of post-election gridlock. Sadr seemingly intends to force a new election and he’s using his ability to stir up protest movements to achieve that aim. Police attempted to stop the protesters using tear gas and there are anecdotal accounts of people being injured but no estimate as to how many.

SYRIA
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 10 people were killed Tuesday in clashes between pro- and anti-government forces in the southern Syrian province of Suwayda. The abduction of two anti-government individuals in the predominantly Druze province on Monday apparently sparked the violence.

Al-Monitor’s Amberin Zaman had a new piece on Monday that I think does a pretty good job of assessing where things stand with respect to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s desire to undertake another invasion of northern Syria. It seems clear that Erdoğan didn’t get the approval, or at least acquiescence, that he wanted during his visit to Iran alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin last week, so for the time being his Syrian ambitions may be in limbo. But the US is still ineffectually trying to walk a line between supporting its Syrian Kurdish proxies and alienating Turkey (failing on both counts), so may be some leeway for the Turks to draw up an invasion plan that meets with Russian approval without sparking a US backlash.

SYRIA
Syrian state media is reporting that an Israeli missile strike on Damascus killed at least three soldiers and wounded seven others overnight. This is a developing story so there aren’t many details at this point.

YEMEN
According to The New Arab, Yemeni rebels shelled a village in Yemen’s Bayda province on Wednesday amid accusations that villagers had killed a “supporter” of the Houthi movement. Villagers denied the allegation but apparently that didn’t matter to the Houthis. At least four people were killed and eight more wounded in the attack.

LEBANON
The Lebanese government intends to deport 15,000 Syrian refugees per month back to Syria, citing an economy that can’t even support most Lebanese citizens let alone hundreds of thousands of displaced Syrians. The threat of being sent back to a place that is in no condition to receive them has apparently driven a number of those refugees to attempt a sea crossing to Europe, alongside people who are making that attempt for purely economic reasons. Lebanese security forces have thwarted a number of attempted crossings but there are reports of groups of people drowning and no reason to think that any of them will be welcomed if they do make it to Europe.

IRAQ
Hundreds of people marched in Baghdad on Thursday in anger over the apparent Turkish bombardment of a northern Iraqi resort area the previous day. At least nine people were killed in the still unexplained incident and more than 20 others wounded. The Turkish government is still denying that its forces were responsible for the attack and is blaming the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). It’s unclear what rationale the PKK would have for undertaking such an attack. Perhaps PKK fighters intended to frame the Turks for an attack on civilians, but that’s an extremely tenuous theory without supporting evidence.

Last week the National Association of Scholars posted an article by John D. Sailer describing yet another worrisome development in science education—this time in the all important area of medical education. The Association of American Medical Colleges released its official Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Competencies—the basis for establishing standards in medical education related to these areas. What caught my eye was the statement by the Chair of the AAMC Council of Deans, that “We believe this topic deserves just as much attention from learners and educators at every stage of their careers as the latest scientific breakthroughs.” . You can be the judge for yourself, as several of the competencies are described in this article, which I am reprinting here with the permission of the NAS.

SYRIA
The Russian military says it downed two drones heading toward its Khmeimim airbase in northwestern Syria on Wednesday. There’s no indication of any casualties. Rebels in nearby Idlib province have been known to launch drone attacks on Khmeimim, though while I haven’t been keeping track my sense is it’s been several months at least since they last attempted such an operation.

YEMEN
A new report produced for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs argues that UN relief efforts in Yemen are of “unacceptably poor quality.” The report cites a number of deficiencies, from shoddy construction in displaced persons camps to poorly equipped medical facilities to an overemphasis on the security of UN workers to the detriment of outreach to Yemenis in need, particularly those in isolated areas. The report comes as Yemen’s ceasefire is just two weeks away from expiring, which will make make it impossible to address the shortcomings identified in the report.

World Politics Review’s Thanassis Cambanis offers a first-hand account of an unsurprisingly dismal political situation in Lebanon:

Then they rush home so as to do household chores in the event the electricity comes on for an hour.

YEMEN
The United Nations is reportedly leaning on the warring parties in Yemen to agree on a second two-month extension of April’s ceasefire. Among the many vague developments that attended Joe Biden’s trip to the Middle East last week was a vague commitment from Saudi leaders to “deepen and extend” the ceasefire, but if UN envoy Hans Grundberg is going to get an extension he’ll need to deal with the fact that the ceasefire’s terms still haven’t been fully implemented. Rebels have not eased their siege of Taiz, there’s little improvement in terms of opening roads that cross the conflict’s front lines, and the Yemeni government has accused the rebels of refusing to share revenue from Hudaydah seaport. The rebels, meanwhile, say that the pro-government coalition is not doing enough to ease its air blockade on Sanaa. As of now the ceasefire is set to expire on August 2.

IRAQ
A Turkish drone strike reportedly killed five people in a single car near the city of Mosul on Sunday. There’s some dispute as to the identity of the victims. The Kurdistan Regional Government, which has strong ties with Turkey, says that all five were Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighters. Ankara of course considers the PKK a terrorist organization and routinely attacks its positions and members in northern Iraq. The PKK is claiming that the five victims were civilians, not combatants.

ISRAEL-PALESTINE
The Israeli military says it “intercepted” a drone that crossed into Israeli airspace from Lebanon on Monday. It’s attributing the drone to Hezbollah but as far as I know Hezbollah hasn’t commented on the incident.

IRAQ
Iraqi soldiers reportedly killed a would-be suicide bomber in the town of Tarmiyah, a bit north of Baghdad, on Sunday morning. Iraqi security forces are in the midst of an effort to find and eliminate Islamic State cells in northern Iraq and this incident seems to have taken place in the context of that operation. They’ve arrested dozens of alleged IS fighters in recent days and among other goals are aiming to close the Syrian border to prevent IS infiltration.

ISRAEL-PALESTINE
To I’m sure nobody’s surprise, the Israeli military responded to Saturday morning’s Gaza rocket fire by bombing an alleged “military target” in the enclave. According to Israeli officials the target was a rocket manufacturing facility belonging to Hamas. There are no reports of any casualties so far as I know.

IRAQ
Hundreds of thousands of people hit the streets in Baghdad on Friday after political leader Muqtada al-Sadr called for a “mass prayer.” Sadr’s aim was clearly to show his political opponents that he commands substantial popular support—support that could, say, be channeled into protests if he were to be of a mind to do so. Mission accomplished, presumably. Sadr may have pulled his party out of parliament last month but he’s still aiming to control the political process from the outside.

ISRAEL-PALESTINE
Joe Biden’s Middle East tour continued Friday with a brief stop in the West Bank, where—unsurprisingly—he dragged the decrepit “two-state solution” out for a quick spin. In a press availability alongside Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem, Biden stressed that the “two-state solution” is still official US policy even as he stressed that “the ground is not right at this moment to restart negotiations” between the Israelis and Palestinians. Will it ever be right again? Who can say?

Somebody decided to mark Biden’s departure (see below) by firing two rockets out of Gaza early Saturday morning. Israeli air defenses reportedly intercepted one of the projectiles and the other landed in an unpopulated area. I haven’t seen any reports of Israeli retaliation as yet but it’s safe to assume it’s forthcoming.

SYRIA
In its annual “Children and Armed Conflict” report, the United Nations finds that Syria led the world in the recruitment and use of child soldiers in 2021. All told, 1296 children were recruited by various Syrian factions last year, with the largest share (569) being recruited by militias under the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army umbrella. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (380) and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (221) also recruited large numbers of child fighters. The report notes that both the SNA and SDP have made some progress in reducing child recruitment and demobilizing child soldiers already in their ranks, but clearly they haven’t made that much progress.

ISRAEL-PALESTINE
Joe Biden spent his second day in the Middle East continuing to meet with Israeli leaders. The day’s big news involved something that people are apparently going to call the “I2U2,” because I guess nobody has any money left to hire a PR firm. This new Gang includes India and Israel (the “I2”) and the United States and United Arab Emirates (you guessed it, the “U2”). I have no idea if Bono and The Edge are going to be involved in any way. In a phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid announced a couple of joint investment initiatives to kick start the new arrangement, focusing on funneling money to projects in India.

At his Forever Wars newsletter, Spencer Ackerman discusses what Joe Biden’s upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia might mean for Yemen:

SYRIA
US Central Command is claiming that it killed Islamic State’s commander in Syria, Maher al-Agal, in a drone strike in northern Aleppo province on Tuesday. There are local accounts of a drone strike in that area that targeted and killed two people on a motorcycle. Central Command’s statement only says that Agal was killed but it does mention an associate of his who was reportedly wounded in the strike. That’s probably the second person on the motorcycle. One starts to wonder why so many senior IS figures seem to be living in parts of Syria that are either under direct Turkish control or at least supposed to be under Turkish oversight. Eh, I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation.

There are a few more details available regarding Monday’s six month renewal of the United Nations humanitarian relief effort from southern Turkey into northwestern Syria. The “compromise” resolution that the UN Security Council finally approved on Tuesday doesn’t seem to be a compromise so much as it’s a capitulation to Russia’s demand for a six month extension as opposed to a full year. The UNSC can vote in January to extend the Turkish operation for another six months, but the Russians will presumably veto that extension unless they see sufficient progress on building up intra-Syrian relief efforts.

Former Intelligence Officials, Citing Russia, Say Big Tech Monopoly Power is Vital to National Security

When the U.S. security state announces that Big Tech's centralized censorship power must be preserved, we should ask what this reveals about whom this regime serves.

A group of former intelligence and national security officials on Monday issued a jointly signed letter warning that pending legislative attempts to restrict or break up the power of Big Tech monopolies — Facebook, Google, and Amazon — would jeopardize national security because, they argue, their centralized censorship power is crucial to advancing U.S. foreign policy. The majority of this letter is devoted to repeatedly invoking the grave threat allegedly posed to the U.S. by Russia as illustrated by the invasion of Ukraine, and it repeatedly points to the dangers of Putin and the Kremlin to justify the need to preserve Big Tech's power in its maximalist form. Any attempts to restrict Big Tech's monopolistic power would therefore undermine the U.S. fight against Moscow.

While one of their central claims is that Big Tech monopoly power is necessary to combat (i.e., censor) “foreign disinformation,” several of these officials are themselves leading disinformation agents: many were the same former intelligence officials who signed the now-infamous-and-debunked pre-election letter fraudulently claiming that the authentic Hunter Biden emails had the "hallmarks” of Russia disinformation (former Obama Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former Obama CIA Director Michael Morrell, former Obama CIA/Pentagon chief Leon Panetta). Others who signed this new letter have strong financial ties to the Big Tech corporations whose power they are defending in the name of national security (Morrell, Panetta, former Bush National Security Adviser Fran Townsend).

A quick Google search of “Russia” or “China” is all that is needed to identify the casual racism of the corporate media and its central role in the U.S.’s New Cold War. Add the word “fear” to the search and the agenda becomes even clearer. In a search for mainstream media articles on Russia conducted on January 26th, nine of the first ten articles that appeared contained the word “fear” in the headline. China fared a bit better than Russia, but not by much. Better than half of the headlines referenced the word “fear” or “worried” to describe affairs relating to the world’s second largest economy.

What is the corporate media so afraid of? With regard to Russia, the fear stems from a rumor spread by the U.S. military and intelligence apparatus that the Russian Federation will invade Ukraine at some point in the very near future. Russia is amassing its military on the Russia-Ukraine border and spreading fear into both Ukrainian families and global markets alike. According to the corporate media, the U.S. is the “white knight” in this scenario. Joe Biden has acted upon the U.S.’s self-anointed savior role by placing thousands of U.S. troops on “high alert,” threatening sanctions against Russia, and working with its European “allies” to ensure that Russia cannot “weaponize” its energy supply.

Recent mainstream media fear mongering over China has centered largely on its COVID-19 response. On January 13th, The New York Times compared health workers in the Chinese city of Xi’an to Adolf Eichmann, a Nazi architect of the Holocaust.

The most commonly used blocker is the Gonadotropic-releasing hormone, according to multiple reports.

Early puberty blockage not good
Bowers and Anderson spoke out in Bari Weiss's Substack newsletter, Common Sense, against some of the trends for transgender youngsters, including administering blockers which they say if given too young can cause irreversible consequences for a person who might change their mind later. Bowers, a renowned vaginoplasty specialist who operated on reality star Jazz Jennings said she is "not a fan" of putting children in the early stages of puberty on blockers. This is a technique doctors use when young people are questioning their gender, a method that can help maintain more feminine looks for boys.

In the 1990s democrats like current Gov and rapist Cuomo, who worked in Clinton's HUD department, would file frivolous lawsuits against handgun makers with the goal of putting them out of business via legal fees. They purposely chose handgun makers over rifle makers because the handgun makers had smaller bank accounts and would succumb to legal fees easier and they would file a fuck ton and word the so they could not be consolidated so that it would waste more legal fees. That is why the PLC act was passed and why you can sue gun makers for defective products, but not for gun crime like how you can't sue Ford for drunk drivers unless the car was defective in some way to cause the accident.
