Until the 1800s when it finally started to die out. For all that time, every culture of the world considered slavery a normal and acceptable part of every day life.
The bullshit today is pretending that white people invented slavery and that no other country or culture every practiced it ever in history before Europeans used them in the Americas. Africans were selling other Africans into slavery for thousands of years before Europeans got into the trade. It was a very unwoke time period.
