>>1021024the US suspects that russia plans to use provocations in ukraine to justify an escalation of the war into the city-leveling phase that russians are very good at, and suspects that russia may use a chemical, biological, or nuclear provocation to create that justification.
the same types of warnings were issued every time the russians have ventured near or captured any other sensitive facility: for example, when the russians captured nuclear storage at chernobyl or the nuclear plant at zaporizhzhia, or when they claimed that azov was going to blow up the reactor at the institute of kharkiv. the same warnings are being made around the ongoing chemical leak at sumy (ammonia, the same thing you piss) - ukrainians claim that russians bombed the chemical plant and russians claim that azov blew it up to make the russians look bad. this, despite the fact that no chemical weapons research is going on at some shitty ex-soviet chemical factory and no nuclear weapons development is happening in kharkiv.
also, in general, if somebody is going to shell even a boring university research lab that contains dangerous human pathogens - which your local university research laboratory also contains, as part of ordinary public health research - it does in fact make sense to make sure you've autoclaved everything before someone breaches the walls
