With Rep. Jim Jordan’s failure to win a floor vote Tuesday, the House speaker farce continues.
Twenty Republicans voted against Jordan; if he can’t do better in the now-planned Wednesday roll call, than he’ll likely have to withdraw as Steve Scalise did before him.
In short, House Republicans have moved on from “frag the lieutenant” to musical chairs; how long before they go to Russian roulette?
The case for simply bolstering the powers of Speaker Pro Tem Patrick Henry, so the House can conduct some normal business, grows ever stronger.
Of course, Henry says he doesn’t want to go down that road, but that’s testimony to his fundamental good sense: It’s hard to see why anyone sane would want to be a GOP speaker now.
