Man builds explosives 5 minutes from my home. Plants one on a random gravel road with nothing there. Bomb gets noticed by a town worker and gets called in. His vehicle gets stopped with a U-Haul filled with explosives. His home gets raided, immediate shutdown of the town square his house is nearby to. Special FBI teams from Alabama (1000 miles away) and Quantico, VA called in. They're still not finished clearing explosives. wtaf.

My opinion on nuclear policy is that the US should unilaterally dismantle its entire nuclear arsenal in a transparent and verifiable way, and to invite every other country on earth to do the same. Possession of nuclear weaponry is insanity of the highest order, only the sadistic fucks at LLNL, LANL and Sandia will tell you otherwise. Heh. Years ago I lived in a small town which had a young guy who was convinced one didn't need fissile material to make a nuke. He was absolutely convinced he could compress any matter enough that it would trigger a nuclear explosion. Then went about trying to prove his theory by constructing bombs in his apartment then hitchhiking with the bomb to some remote place in the forest outside of town.

I had the unfortunate experience of giving him a ride once but the convo we had (actually he did the talking) was most interesting if not bizarre. He was pretty passionate about the "science" but obviously lacked common sense. I asked him how far out of town he goes. About 5km. Asked him his theoretical yield and blast radius. He said about 10km. I asked if he could see the risk, afterall scientists perform tests out in remote deserts. I got a blank look from him. I pointed out he'd be killing himself hiding behind the tree 100 metres away and everyone in town. Oh-no he says, the beauty of the "reaction" is that it leaves no fallout.

Later that year he got arrested by the RCMP and convicted of bomb making material or possession of explosives without a permit or something. He served no time but had to spend time at a psychiatry institute and prescribed meds. About 2 yrs later a friend working at a fish packing plant went outside at 2AM for a smoke break. See's "Super Dave" at the end of the wharf flashing a spotlight into the sky. He knew better not to ask but curiosity got him, asked Super Dave what he was doing. Signalling to the aliens, he said. Why? He wanted off the planet and was hoping to get picked up. Yikes.
