Spectrum call center provides fried chicken and watermelon to employees for Juneteenth

No.1305400 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
The staff at the Spectrum call center on W Arrowood Rd in Charlotte are fuming over being served fried chicken and watermelon on Juneteenth. The day commemorates the liberation of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas in 1865, following the Civil War and President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation two years prior.

After publishing this story earlier, we did manage to snag a photo of what the call center was serving it’s employees and a copy of a letter from the VP, Marco Pezzuto, to the employees.

In his message, Pezzuto failed to offer a direct apology to the offended Black staff members. Instead, he stated “our team works very hard to provide engaging events,” while acknowledging the validity of the concerns raised by the employees.

“We want to acknowledge some feedback received regarding our Juneteenth celebration,” Pezzuto said in his letter obtained by The North Carolina Beat. “Although our intent was to celebrate this nationally recognized day, some of you voiced your concerns regarding the associated food choices.”

Mr. Pezzuto further stated that “we have a strong open-door policy, and we welcome employees to voice concerns to our leadership team directly.” However, several employees told The North Carolina Beat that they feared they would face retaliation if they brought up racial issues.

Pic rel is his letter.
