BOSTON —
Massachusetts Republicans are alleging the amount of money spent on the state's migrant crisis is veiled in "secrecy" and are demanding a full disclosure about the spending and asking for information on public safety incidents at state-funded emergency housing.
The Massachusetts Republican Party Chair has formally submitted FOIA requests to the Executive Office for Administration & Finance, the Office of the Governor, Legal Counsel, the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance, the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security and the Executive Office of Housing & Economic Development for the information, the group said Tuesday.
“The Healey-Driscoll Administration has shrouded nearly $1 billion spent in secrecy, leaving Massachusetts residents in the dark. They have withheld critical information on 600 incidents involving police, fire and EMT," Massachusetts Republican Party Chair Amy Carnevale said in a statement.
"I don't think that there's a legitimate reason for any of this information to be shielded from public view. If anything, we need more transparency, more scrutiny and accountability, and that will lead to better governance," said state Rep. Ryan Fattman, who represents Worcester.
