Detroit factory worker killed, security guard arrested after gunfight over food delivery
A late-night dispute that was over a food delivery to a Detroit factory worker escalated into gunfire on Sunday, leaving one man dead and another in police custody, according to police and news reports.
Detroit Police, which confirmed Sunday's fatal shooting in the 13100 block of Artesian, told the Free Press it is investigating the dispute, which, it said, came to a head at about 11:30 p.m. Two men, the police department said, fired at each other.
Police would not offer any details about the fight or shooting.
But WJBK-TV (Channel 2), reporting from the scene early Monday, said that the mother of the shooting victim, 31-year-old Harmond Ulmer, a worker at Detroit Manufacturing Systems, told the station that her son was hungry and had asked a friend to bring him some food.
When the friend arrived at the gate, a security guard would not let him in.
So, the mother said, Ulmer drove to the gate.
That’s when the security guard and Ulmer got into a squabble that ended in gunfire.
Ulmer, the TV station reported, was killed; and the security guard has been taken into police custody.
