>>1385088I care about para-sports. It's the same principle. Leagues have restricted participation for the sake of sportsmanship and the safety of the athletes. Within leagues, there can be further divisions. The divisions are biological and inform a bell curve.
Mens' sports are unrestricted, minus performance enhancing drugs. If some amazon shot out of the sky, she could play in the biologically unrestricted league. It's unlikely but it's allowed. Like that biological female who almost made it into the NHL as a goalie.
Someone wanting to remove biological criteria for social reasons is bullshit. Biological, in most cases chromosomal, sex are the discriminator. Gender is, supposedly, social. Social criteria do not excuse biological criteria.
In the same way someone could be too sighted to compete in a blind league, a trans woman is too biologically male to compete in a biologically female league. They're on a different bell curve, even if they're so far at the bottom of theirs that they can't compete in either league. Lots of biological women and disabled people can't compete in their leagues because of a lack of natural ability. If this were an ability thing, it'd be the "can't compete past 60% of world record league" or something and not the women's league. It's allow crippled men and whatever. Same with a disabled league allowing old people or out of shape fat people. It's not in the spirit of it.
