They start out as Met Interns as GS-5 for one year, GS-7 the second year, GS-9 the third year. After three years, their probation period is generall over and they become Mets or HMTs and start their careers.

Any intern can be fired at any time in their first three years.

We just had one of the worst hurricanes in history rip through tennessee and the carolinas and nobody was expecting it until their house was sliding into a river.
