Musk has announced he will step down from DOGE in May.
https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-gives-doge-update-elon-musk-says-hell-step-down-may-2053368 Donald Trump Gives DOGE Update as Elon Musk Says He'll Step Down in May
President Donald Trump provided an update on the future of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after its architect, Elon Musk, revealed last week that he plans to step down as a special government employee by the end of May.
Trump was asked by a reporter Monday in the Oval Office, "Is DOGE going to keep operating even without Elon Musk?"
The president replied, "I can't tell you that. I will say this a lot of the people working with DOGE are the secretaries, the heads of the various agencies, and they've learned a lot. And they're dealing with the DOGE people. I think some of them may try to keep the DOGE people."
He concluded, "At a certain point, I think it will end."
Musk is a special government employee, a category for temporary federal workers who are only supposed to work 130 days out of 365 in their roles.
On Friday, Musk told Fox News chief political anchor Bret Baier that he believes he can complete the goal of slashing $1 trillion in government spending "within that time frame [the end of May]."

So he's stepping down from leadership of the agency that's not an agency, that he's legally not the leader of? Is that anything like how he stopped being CEO of Twitter a couple years ago?

this is the point in every DOGE thread where I point out that the USDS was created by Obama in 2014, as US Digital Service, an office of the executive branch that answers only to the president. It was renamed USDOGES by Trump in January. It's the same service.
Obama's first hire was a British employee of Google, whose task was to update the

>>1397352 how so? contracts is estimated 25billion saved grants is 33billion and leases are 400million.
the first page alone of contracts is close to 7billion in cuts.
It adds up if you can properly read.
The 140billion includes asset sales which isn't listed as a category.
https://doge.gov/savings "Contracts
Displaying 7279 contract terminations totaling ~$25B in savings."
look at the individual categories they add up.

Anonymous
>>1397375 buddy are you able to read.
it isn't 140billion that's everything including categories that ISN"T written on the site
Each category by itself adds up.
25billion in contracts
33billion in grants
400million in leases.
The 140billion number includes asset sales which ISN"T on the site and imo probably exaggerated. but the invididual categories add up.
If you click on total savings the first page of the biggest contract cuts already adds up to 14billion which is over half of the list.
The reason it doesn't add up for you is because you're looking at the 140billion on the top and thinking its everything included in the three categories which it isn't. and says so in the text right under it.
Anonymous
>>1397378 If it isn't on the site why should I believe them? I thought this was supposed to be transparent as possible?
Seriously you can't just be like "here's all the things that anyone with a FOIA can verify. As for the rest uh, trust me it's all the rest of it :)". Provide some fucking receipts to prove you don't just increase the number to whatever makes it seems like you're on track for your goal.

>>1397381 "Combination of asset sales, contract/lease cancellations and renegotiations, fraud and improper payment deletion, grant cancellations, interest savings, programmatic changes, regulatory savings, and workforce reductions."
then don't but its saying that literally right under that, you're the one who didn't read the text.
You can't put savings from workforce reduction on a list like this, plus asset sales and everything after grant cancellation isn't on the site.
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/03/28/us/politics/trump-doge-federal-job-cuts.html you can look it up yourself, I still don't see it adding up to 70billion but there's nearly 300k federal worker cuts coming up. I'm assuming that's going to be the main thing that makes up for the difference
