Elon Musk has dropped what he referred to as "the really big bomb" in his rapidly escalating feud with President Donald Trump.
As the former allies sling mud at each other in the public arena, Musk has made the allegation that Trump "is in the Epstein files."
"That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!" he added in a post on X.
The increasingly personal feud escalated earlier in the week after Musk, who contributed more than $200 million to Trump's presidential campaign, publicly criticized the administration-backed "One Big Beautiful Bill." The proposed legislation aims to extend tax cuts, overhaul immigration enforcement, and repeal consumer incentives for electric vehicles.
Musk condemned the bill as a "disgusting abomination," arguing that it would add trillions to the federal debt.
Trump posted Thursday afternoon that "the easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts." In a follow-up, he said he took away Musk's electric vehicle mandate and claimed, "he just went CRAZY!"
The Epstein files refer to a collection of documents, including court records and flight logs connected to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
There is no evidence that Trump is among the files.
Epstein was known to entertain famous people on his island, Little St. James, in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
He took his own life at the age of 66 in a jail cell at New York City's Metropolitan Correctional Center in August 2019, before he could stand trial in Manhattan on sex-trafficking charges where he was accused of preying on underage girls as young as 14. Authorities determined he hanged himself. He always denied any wrongdoing.
