Yes, if they bypass the Democrats with the nuclear option Mike Johnson will no longer be able to use the shutdown as an excuse to not seat Adelita Grijalva, granting the final vote needed to force the Epstein bill through.
But no, because the shutdown is not actually preventing Mike Johnson from seating Grijalva, and his implying it is a straight up lie. Meaning once the shutdown ends, he'll just come up with another lie to prevent a vote on the Epstein bill.
Because protecting a cabal of powerful child rapists from justice is Mike Johnson's top priority as Speaker of the House.

Right, that's what I mean.
There is literally no reason why the shutdown has to end before he calls the House back into session. That is 100 percent his decision.
In fact, the House was scheduled to reconvene this week, but Johnson decided at the last second to declare this week a "district work" week so the House couldn't convene.
Beyond that, given he already publicly said he'd seat Grijalva whenever she wanted, but then changed his answer to "when the shutdown ends" when she showed up at the Capitol to be sworn in, there is no reason to believe a word he says.
Because the truth is this is all just him stalling calling the House back into session so he can bribe or threaten one or two reps into backing off of voting for the Epstein bill. If the Democrats cave right this second and the shutdown ends, he will come up with a new arbitrary reason not to reconvene.
Because protecting a cabal of powerful child rapists from justice is Mike Johnson's top priority as Speaker of the House.

They literally put Congress on break to avoid it and are now saying "well we can't meet during the shutdown!" even though they not only can, but should be meeting to do negotiations. They're actively refusing to swear in the last dem needed too.

Again, Speaker Johnson would have the power to block any of those performative votes before they're even called. You can't just scream "I have a bill I want a vote on!" and force the House to vote on it.

1. Republicans could pass the continuing resolution with a simple majority in the Senate right now but are refusing to do so. For reference, they passed the initial One Big Beautiful Bill Act this CR stems from with a simple majority of 51 two months ago.
2. As of now there have also been no public acknowledgements of any concessions being offered by Senate Republicans to incentivize Democrats to vote for the CR.
3. There is nothing preventing the House of Representatives from reconvening during the shutdown, and as Speaker Mike Johnson has full power to block any attempts by Democrats in the House from introducing an amended resolution.
4. Speaker Johnson refusing to reconvene the House does allow him to delay swearing in Adelita Grijalva, a Democrat representative who won her special election last week. She has also pledged to be the 219th signatory of a petition to force a House floor vote on a bill that would require the DOJ to release all files connected to the Jeffrey Epstein child sex trafficking ring.
5. A continued government shutdown allows the Bureau of Labor Statistics, under the umbrella of the executive branch headed by President Donald Trump, to postpone releasing September's unemployment and inflation reports. For reference, their August report showed inflation and unemployment ticking up to their highest levels since Trump took office.
6. Additionally, Speaker Johnson refusing to call the House until the shutdown ends forces Republicans in the Senate to only offer the CR as it exists now and prevents them from making any changes or amendments, as doing so would require those amendments, once passed, to go back to the House for approval. Meaning even if Senate Republicans wanted to compromise to gain the last handful of necessary Democrat votes, Speaker Johnson has made it impossible for them to do so.

As I've said multiple times, Republicans could use the nuclear option and fund the government right now without a single Democrat vote.
But they don't want to do that, because they don't want to give Democrats precedent to use that power against them
And that's fine. So if that's off the table and 60 votes are needed to pass the CR, the next move would be to try to negotiate with Democrats to gain their votes.
But they have publicly shown no interest in that, and now Mike Johnson has effectively made it impossible even if Senate Republicans wanted to negotiate (I personally think some of them were starting to waver and show signs of being willing to negotiate privately, which is why Johnson took that option away from them).
So here we are, because Republicans are very much NOT only asking for the government to be funded. They are demanding Democrats bend the knee and vote in favor of healthcare subsidy cuts they don't agree with.
