This speaks to the core of the way he views the world and how alien it is to normal, decent people who have worked for things in their lives instead of being handed everything on a silver platter.
He genuinely has no concept of earning something. The mere act of physically possessing it is all that matters.
Which is why he truly believes he deserves the 400 million dollars his father handed him no strings attached, and why he's had no problem ripping people off all his life.
The idea most people are taught as toddlers, that you shouldn't take something that doesn't belong to you just because you can and that the value in some things is the work you put into achieving them, are totally alien concepts to him.
He really, truly just wanted a physical Nobel Prize. If he had waddled into the Oval Office one day and seen one sitting on his desk, he truly would have seen that as just as much of an accomplishment as actually being awarded one by the Nobel committee.
