After Russia realized that Venezuela was no longer a safe place to launder their oil, their tanker "Marinera" turned for home, and as the Hegemonic forces closed in on them, they even panicked and changed the flag of the vessel from whatever tax dodge island nation it was ostensibly sailing under, to that of Russia.
American forces afforded that desperate subterfuge all of the respect it deserved (zero), and promptly boarded and seized the vessel without caring that it was now legally a Russian vessel.
Russia has since limited its response to begging, not for the return of the ship and its cargo, but for the return of the entire crew. Now, they have rewritten their "demand" to make it only 2 Russian nationals, who are likely skilled operatives of some sort and even more likely being worked over in a blacksite by the CIA right now.
Are y'all ready to realize that Russia's limp language and ineffectiveness in securing their countrymen's return demonstrates a new strategic reality, one in which Russia is largely irrelevant?
Keep in mind, this article is Russian state propaganda, and yet even it quotes Lavrov like he's a kicked puppy "waiting for Washington to live by its promise".
Moscow says they're "puzzled and disappointed". No world power talks like that.
*The picture is from the latest to be seized, the Sagitta. That seizure is discussed in the Russian state piece below.
