Cougars in the Cascades

No.312971 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Planning on going into the WA state cascades as soon as the snow melts and it's warm out, so it could be sometime later this month or not until July. I'm inquiring about cougars.

I'm planning on going by myself and climbing to a remote peak and camping on top of it for a few days near a big rock outcrop. Might be some caves there I don't know. I've never seen a cougar in the wild here but it got me thinking where do they actually have their homes and how much do I have to worry about one out there?

Any advice is welcome ill be here for a whole so I am answer anything.

Survival catagories

No.210296 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hey /out/, I'm working on a notebook where I can write all kinds of useful tips and methods for survival. I'm trying to develop an index to this notebook which are the different topics. So my question is, what topics should this notebook include? I'll name the obvious. Shelters/fire, boats/water, trapping/cooking, fishing, dangerous animals/plants,edible mushrooms/plants, first-aid. Anything you think I should add to the index?

Not to be that guy, but I live around red star and want to go camping somewhere near blue circle, 2 or 3 hours drive. Tent camping, probably no fire, drive up because we're faggots like that. I only get one shot because gas money is a lot and we can't take much more time off. 5 or 6 days.

Looking for mountainous campground, preferably with that nice slate stone, a stream, good hiking trails at least 10 miles contiguous. I've only been to the mountains once when I was a kid, and all I remember is beautiful mountains and this stream with clear water and a lot of that flat rock. I'd love to hike to an overview cliff.

Any recs would be appreciated, gents. We're going early July.

Can /out/ help me find a jacket?

I'll be visiting the great white north in early 2014 for some snowshoeing and climbing. Here in FL, there's really no need for jackets. However, I'd rather not freeze to death in canada.

I really have no idea what to look for when I'm buying outerwear. Good brands? It should probably be waterproof, probably be insulated. Any suggestions?

Hi /out/

I want to plan an outdoor treasure hunt party for adults, I need some activities that the participants can do at each checkpoint, without having a game master to oversee the activity, so that they can advance to the next checkpoint. Kinda like a low budget version of the amazing race.

Any ideas?

Berry identification

I recent went on a walk in a forest in lower New York (Croton on Hudson) and found these. I would like to get some identification if possible

3 pics incoming.

The first I think are called Wineberries but they may be Raspberries... I ate some of them (other people on the trail were, but I got no real answers as to what they were) and they were sweet, but without the tang of rasperries, so I dunno.

Hey, /out/, I'm pretty new to this board. I'm from Michigan, and I'm really interested in going out with a backpack and seeing how I fare in the woods for a couple of days. Does anybody know where I'd go to do that?
