Wal-Mart let's you stay like a week, most rest stops have a 12 hour max. National forest land let's you stay up to 2 weeks in one place (or was that BLM land?). I'm the off season, many paid campgrounds have very reasonable long term rates.

Both countries have ugly models and decent looking ones. Back in the day, the US ones were definitely better looking. The 90's models in Europe were especially ugly.

Not everyone gets a van to just sleep in a parking lot. I put camping gear in mine and use it as a base.
Best part is when I get back to the van I can have a shower and make a cup of coffee, a cold drink or some food in it before I drive home.

Anyone got experience with a Dicklicker? (Mitsubishi Delica)
Mate of mine reckons it's what I should go for but I'm still in the fence about whether I want a Ford or a Toyota instead.
Hell I've even thought about buying a Nissan like a prairie or something and fitting out the back of that

In terms of reliability, parts availability, and online communities, the Transit and Delica are far better than anything else on the market.

The biggest differences are the Delica's off road capability, and the Transit's much larger interior space. The Delica is also slightly comfier to drive.

The M1008, M1010, M1028, are all K40 based (4wd, 5/4 ton), the M1009 is a K5 with the springs from a K20 Suburban.

Chevy pickups that start with C are 2wd, K means 4wd.

5 means Blazer, 10 means half ton pickup, 20 means 3/4 ton, 30 means 1 ton, etc.

Depends, if you're there by choice, sure. If you can't afford a home, they're a mobile cuckshed.

Most RVers are retired, and RVing downgrades the women you can get.

Yeah sure.

No, living in an RV will diminish your quality of life.

I've been RVing and sailing, after a few weeks of RVing I had to quit, but I live-aboard sailed for 4 years comfortably. IMO sailing is much more worthwhile.

The c vs k 5 or 10 or 20 is civvy numbering. K10s are 4x4 pick ups c30s are 2wd tons ect. They did make k40s 50s and 60s but get yiur ass ready for silly prices and huuuuge fuel bills to power medium duty (read, fuckyuge) trucks.

Only asking because the ex-military ones for sale here in Euroland are all with the 6.2 diesel.
You can get them for around €4,000, and they are essentially the same dimensions, and have the same capability as a Land-Rover so I'm looking into one.

Are they cheaper than land rovers there? Id imagine cheap land rovers have electrical problems which those military cucvs wont, but O cant imagine finding parts for american pick ups is easy over there, but im not sure cause im in the us where we can buy those parts for dirt cheap.

All of the military ones are, and all of the civilian ones had it as an option. The 6.2 is an underrated motor, sure, it's not that powerful, but my M1009 used to get 30 mpg on the freeway before I lifted it and shit. It still does like 27 mpg.

CUCVs have a 24 volt electrical system so they could jumpstart tanks and use regular military radios. I've never seen someone convert theirs back to 12 volt without having persistant problems. So there are some drawbacks. Also the M1008, M1010, and M1028 have a 4.55:1 final drive ratio so they are pretty much topped out at 100 kph.

Depends on the camper. Yeah a 1975 winnebago with a carbureted 454 is gonna get shit mileage but a 2016 Mercedes can get 24mpg interstate because it uses a twin turbo v6.

Honestly if you get it going that fast you won the lottery, my first unit had some of the last of the cucv's still in active service and only one of them could be coaxed up to 55mph and we had a couple that struggled to hit 40 on a decline.

Yours must have been clapped out as fuck, I've owned 3 (two 1009s and a 1028) and driven a half dozen more (including one 1010), and never had any trouble getting to 60, they just rev so loud that you can't have a conversation in the cab (at least the non M1009 trucks). I had my first M1009 over 100 mph, but M1009s have 3.08 gears instead of 4.55 gears so that's about the same revs as 60 in a 1008, 1010, or 1028.

But going up in tire size to 35 or 37 inches actually makes the 8/10/28s better on the highway because it gets the revs under control.

That 6.2 is governed to 4400 rpm (which is screaming in a diesel), but is flat on power after 3000.

Oh god yes, ~25 years of service in the 82nd tends to do that.

Some of the things that didn't help were the USGI split rims that weighed like 250lbs each, an institutional aversion to replacing the air filter (we "cleaned" them by whacking them with a wrench), and the crappy tires that the Army uses.
