For me it was about losing a habit. I hiked continuously for 10+ years, but that 9 month period of rain every day just ruined it for me, and then hiking was no longer a habit. I no longer planned it into my weekends or even thought about it, and then it was a big effort instead of automatic.
It used to be the case that if I hadn't been /out/ for a while I would get urges. I HAD to get into nature. But after that long period of not doing it I lost any desire to.
According to the Met Office it was the wettest 18 months on record. I'm really not exaggerating when I say it rained every day for 9 months where I live. There was a period from September 2023 until May 2024 where it rained every day for me. And even if it was dry it was generally low visibility - overcast, fog, dark, dismal. You can't see anything, nothing even looks green.
I think if I just make the effort to force myself /out/ a few weekends in a row then it will all come back to me and become a habit again.
