Creek paddling is the best paddling; nothing like that enveloping feeling of nature hypnotically gliding past you

Ocean kayaking otoh can be really boring. The scenery is so far away that it feels like you're not even moving

Every now and then some granola will cross Lake Superior or something and I can't even imagine how boring that is lmao

I think I might be done for the year. Water temp is below 60 and I don't feel like dicking around with cold weather gear rn. Thanks for the advice on the Grumman, and it's been a good run. See you in spring!

I'm glad that I can paddle most of the winter here in the southeast, but ironically I take a big chunk of the summer off because it's just too damn hot. It makes you appreciate getting out though when you have to put it up for a while.

I spent 7 days paddling down a major river in europe this summer, haven’t had this much fun in ages, every night i’d pull out my canoo at some shore and build a little campfire and stuff. It was very nice bc i was in some densely populated areas but along the river there were a lot of places inaccessible by land where i could peacefully camp without ppl bothering me. The river also went through a lot of historical towns as these were the main trade routes between prehistory and the invention of the cargo truck so the variation was cool too, i would start the day in my own little swamp camp, then paddle all day enjoying the landscape along the river and when i passed through a city i’d hide the canoo and walk through town to pick up supplies (mostly food, water and weed) in the city and then paddle on until about half an hour before sunset and set up camp in a quiet peaceful place. It was very relaxing, the current pushed me along the way so i could pause paddling to eat or roll joints while still making progress on the trip. Happiest days of my life really, i would post pictures but i used them to impress some qts and i don’t want them to find out i post here

Today was the canal. It was super low the city is draining it for winter. I had it all to myself. Got to test my farmerjohn and neoprene socks, the NRS farmerjohn are awesome but the Chinese socks could be better, the water is getting colder I need to get better booties rather then socks and also a semi dry yop. Never been kayaking before, but an island I want to hike on is a little less than 1000ft from shore. Locals say the surf is a little worse than usual, but nothing outstanding. Is it some Herculean effort or can I do it?

Did a trip to the everglades last year. It was subpar rental kayak, but exploring the mangroves was a blast. Camped out on a chickee in the bay. Talk about mosquitos.

I love my thermoformed Delta 17'.
I say you should choose a thermoform. They're pretty solid boats. I don't think you should worry about rocks - just steer clear of them!
With the thermoform, you can just carry the thing, obviating the need for dragging it over rocks.
